A Letter from Governor Ray Pezonella:
“The Heart of an Optimist”
Greetings from your Governor 20-21, it is with great honor and humbleness that I assume the duties of Governor for the Pacific Central District. As I reflect on the great leaders that have preceded me, I feel overwhelmed. I thank our previous Governor Sophia for enduring such difficult times; dealing with the pandemic. As we adjust to these extraordinary times and challenges we face have stretched our endurance and patience. My wish is that we continue to serve our communities with the philosophy of life utilizing our tenets of the Optimist Creed and aid and encourage the development of our youth.
I would like to thank those individuals who have step up this Optimist year accepting the duties that our required for the positions (Board of Directors and Committee Chairs) within the district. This allows us to maintain continuity and keep a professional leadership team.
I’m looking forward to visiting each club in our district, however with the current restrictions on assembly numbers; it may be a while before I can cover all the clubs in our two states. In the meantime, each individual club needs to remain enthusiastic and dedicated to be connected with their respective communities.
As assembly restrictions gradually are removed, I am certain more clubs will re-establish their meeting locations. This will assist me in scheduling individual visits. I am looking forward to learning more about the individual members and great work they perform in their communities.
Lieutenant Governor Herb Sullivan and I have been working very hard to bring the November District meeting to the Doubletree in Rohnert Park, California. We have been working with the meetings and convention manager Shelly to make this a reality. Let us all think positive that we will be able to meet face-to-face in Rohnert Park, this fall.
As our district faces several changes as previously mentioned we need to continue our focus and support as we make the transition over the next few months to a more normal environment. Membership and Retention, along with establishing new clubs become vital which will continue to help us reach our goals as a district. I will be speaking more about that at our district and Club meeting.
I want to thank Optimist Flavio Soria for taking over as web master for our district. Over the next few months, he will bring this site up to date with the help of the Optimist members. So please, as you have information about your clubs or members please pass it on to him.
In closing, let me assure you that my efforts will be focused on our Board of Directors and Committee Chairs as dedicated volunteers to provide service and support to our local Optimist Clubs. As our 20-21 President Mark Weinsoff wants us to remember to” Choose Optimism”.
God Bless! Governor Ray “PEZ” Pezonella and First Lady Nancy Pezonella
